The first horse-drawn bus makes its début in the city of Mumbai, traveling two routes.

In Mumbai, Mohandas Gandhi begins to fast in protest at the autocratic rule in India.

1942

The Quit India resolution is passed by the Bombay session of the All India Congress Committee in Bombay, and Mahatma Gandhi gave the "Quit India speech" at Gowalia Tank, leading to the start of a civil disobedience movement across British India.

Air India Flight 855 Boeing 747 crashes into the sea, due to instrument failure and pilot disorientation, off the coast of Bombay, killing 213.
