The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 is passed in America, the effect of which is to render marijuana and all its by-products illegal.

1948

8.31.1948

Actor Robert Mitchum is arrested in a Hollywood drug raid. He would later be found guilty of criminal conspiracy to possess marijuana and sentenced to 60 days in prison.

2005

6.6.2005

The United States Supreme Court upholds a federal law banning cannabis, including medical marijuana, in ''Gonzales v. Raich''.
