Approximately 2,000 Jews are burned to death by mobs or forcibly removed from the city of Strasbourg.

Geneva expels John Calvin and his followers from the city. Calvin lives in exile in Strasbourg for the next three years.

The Treaty of London establishes the Council of Europe in Strasbourg as the first European institution working for European integration.
