Baseball: The Boston Americans play the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first game of the modern World Series.

Black Sox scandal: The Cincinnati Reds win the World Series.

Baseball: The World Series is broadcast on the radio for the first time.

1947

The World Series, featuring the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers, is televised for the first time.

1956

New York Yankees's Don Larsen pitched the only perfect game in a World Series; one of only 20 perfect games in MLB history.

1975

Game 6 of the World Series is played between the Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds. The game would be won on a home run off the left field foul pole at Fenway Park hit by Carlton Fisk in the bottom of the 12th inning, ending perhaps the greatest baseball game played in World Series history.
