Skanderbeg and his forces liberate Kruja in Middle Albania and raise the Albanian flag.

1799

Napoleon Bonaparte captures Jaffa in Palestine and his troops proceed to kill more than 2,000 Albanian captives.

Dedë Gjon Luli Dedvukaj, leader of the Malësori Albanians, raises the Albanian flag in the town of Tuzi, Montenegro, for the first time after Gjergj Kastrioti (Skenderbeg).

Albania declares its independence from the Ottoman Empire.

First Balkan War: the Treaty of London, 1913 is signed ending the war. Albania becomes an independent nation.

Otto Witte, an acrobat, is purportedly crowned King of Albania.

The Autonomous Republic of Northern Epirus is proclaimed in Gjirokastër, by the Greeks living in southern Albania.

Ahmet Zogu declares Albania to be a monarchy and proclaims himself king.

World War II: Italy invades Albania.

Albanian fascist leader Tefik Mborja is appointed as member of the Italian Chamber of Fasces and Corporations.

World War II: Greece rejects Italy's ultimatum. Italy invades Greece through Albania, marking Greece's entry into World War II.

1949

The retreat of the Democratic Army of Greece in Albania after its defeat on Gramos mountain marks the end of the Greek Civil War.

1955

Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Laos, Libya, Nepal, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Sri Lanka join the United Nations.
